Let me add my thoughts to the eulogies of Alex Trebec.
He was a charismatic man, who gave every appearance of being kind.  And one doesn't speak ill of the dead.  But I sometimes thought, hey, you have the answers in front of you!  No need to pity the poor schlemiels who don't.
Am I bitter?  Of course.  Watching Jeopardy (when I did, at the gym) (when there was a gym to do to) was a test of my self-esteem.  When I didn't know the answer, I could hear my father's condescending chuckle in the back of his throat.  Science and sports -- fergeddaboudit.  Then, once there was a category on the opening lines of novels.  (Where were you then, Daddy?)  Another time: Yiddish Expressions.  Aced it.
I miss him.  We all do.  Alex was everyone's dad.
